Patrick S. Smalley '86
President

Patrick S. Smalley is the executive vice president of Fairhaven Properties, Inc., developers, owners, investors and real estate managers.  In his capacity, Mr. Smalley advises ownership on organizational, financial, and market strategies and the implementation of major decisions concerning firm direction, asset management, capital formation, resource allocation, and new business opportunities.

Prior to joining Fairhaven Properties in January 1996, Mr. Smalley was employed for 10 years at Legg Mason Real Estate Services, Inc., last serving as a director of real estate investments.

Mr. Smalley is active in community and civic affairs.  In June, 2007 he was elected President of the Adelphi University Alumni Association.  An executive board member of the Adephi University Alumni Assoication since June 2005, Mr. Smalley previously served as the chairman of their Financial Resources Committee.  In September, 2005, he was the recipient of the Adelphi President’s Award for outstanding achievement and friendship.  Smalley also stays involved with the Waldorf School of Garden City, for which he previously served as a Trustee.

In November, 2003, Mr. Smalley was named “Executive of the Year” and honoree of the 50th Anniversary Gala of the Mental Health Association of Nassau County for his outstanding leadership in business and service to the community.  In 2005, The Garden City Chamber of Commerce presented Smalley with their Community Achievement Award for outstanding service to the community through his professional work. 

In 1998, he was appointed by the Mayor of Garden City to serve on the Village’s Business Planning Coalition, which developed a plan for the revitalization of Garden City’s business districts.  In the days immediately following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Smalley facilitated the opening of The Garden City Hotel to the American Red Cross, which was in need of a central location for an emergency Crisis Community Intervention Center that could accommodate family members and friends of victims.  In 2004, Smalley teamed the Garden City Hotel with the Freedom Calls Foundation, an organization authorized by the secretary of the Army to provide communications services to the troops and their families.  Using live video-conferencing from the Garden City Hotel, the joint effort connected American soldiers at war in Iraq with their families back home for Christmas Eve.

Mr. Smalley has served as the sponsor and host of series of private roundtables that bring business and community leaders together to explore solutions to challenges facing the Long Island community.

Mr. Smalley holds a B.A. degree from Adelphi University and New York State licenses for general real estate appraiser and real estate broker.  He is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York.  Born in Brooklyn, NY, he resides in Garden City, with his son, Christopher.
