Martha Stark, M.B.A. '86
President Emeritus

A seasoned financial executive, Martha Stark serves as Senior Vice President and Group Director for Signature Bank, providing banking services for businesses and private clients in the metro New York area.  Prior to joining Signature Bank, Martha was the Northeast Regional Business Development Leader for the accounting and consulting firm of BDO Seidman, LLP.  At BDO she oversaw business development activities for the firm’s NYC offices and for four other offices in the northeast.  Before BDO, Martha worked in commercial banking for fifteen years, most recently as a Senior Vice President and Team Leader for Fleet Bank in charge of the bank’s middle market group covering Nassau County.

As part of her work with Signature Bank, Martha has established three executive roundtables for Chief Financial Officers.  These groups meet monthly to address day-to-day challenges facing financial executives and their companies.  Each group consists of 20-30 CFOs primarily from privately held companies.  Martha has partnered with well known accounting firms, law firms and LISTnet to host and help facilitate these roundtables.

Martha is dedicated to the Long Island community and currently serves as President of the board of Adelphi University’s Alumni Association and the Chair of the Long Island board of the American Heart Association.  Prior to these board positions, Martha served on several other boards, including the Theodore Roosevelt Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Women Economic Developers of Long Island, Long Island Women’s Agenda and the Executive Women’s Golf Association.  Martha is also a member of Long Island Software and Technology Network (LISTnet).  In 2002 and 2004, Martha was honored by Long Island Business News as one of LI’s Top 50 Business Women and was inducted into the LI Top 50 Women Hall of Fame in 2006. 

Martha attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs where she received a B.A. in mathematics.  In 1986 she graduated from Adelphi University’s graduate school of business with an M.B.A. in Finance and Investments.  Martha lives in Garden City with her husband, Bob.
