"Even though I was not pre-med, Dr. Eickelberg was always available for a chat on my career goals. He was a good listener, gave good advice and was, most of all, fun to talk to."

"Warren Eickelberg was the best teacher I had in undergraduate school and more than 100 credit hours of graduate study at several well-known universities. He taught us more than biology, he mentored us, supported us, provided innovative methods and programs in our classrooms and campus wide. He modeled effective behaviors that enabled us to become successful in whatever career we chose. Excellent teachers teach by example and with appropriate anecdotes. Warren Eickelberg was the consummate educator."

"There were two quotes that my father used to say often.

'There are two types of people in the world- those that do and those that are about to do.'

'There are three types of people in the world, those that make thing happen, those that watch things happen and the those that say "wow what happened"'.

Robert G. Eickelberg

"I entered Adelphi as a biology major in 1977. I had known since the 8th grade that I wanted to be a doctor but I had no idea how I was going to pay for medical school particularly after incurring a significant amount of debt to pay for Adelphi. After several meetings with Professor Eickelberg he suggested that I consider the military, specifically the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. If accepted to the School of Medicine I would receive a full scholarship but would have to serve on active duty in the military for 7 years after completing internship and residency training. I had never considered the military before but after speaking with Professor Eickelberg and learning of his experience in the Air Force I was persuaded. I applied and was accepted to USUHS in 1981 and received my MD in 1985. I ended up remaining on active duty in the U.S. Navy for over 25 years. I had a marvelous career serving as a Naval Officer and medical doctor. Joining the Navy was the best decision of my life and I owe it to the sage advice and wise counsel that I received from Professor Eickelberg during my years as an undergraduate at Adelphi."
