What does an FALA volunteer do?

  • Represent Adelphi University and the Office of Alumni Relations
  • Build lifelong relationships between students and alumni
  • Promote school spirit within your colleges and instill pride in both students and alumni of those schools (College of Arts & Sciences, Derner Institute, Honors College, School of Business, Ruth S. Ammon School of Education, School of Nursing, School of Social Work)
  • Attend receptions, networking events, seminars, University events and meetings
  • Assist/volunteer in a variety of duties such as educating alumni on campus life, meeting and greeting guests, giving out name tags, showing attendees to their seats, handing out information, acting as a tour guide on campus, setting up display tables, and/or preparing information packages
  • Assist the Office of Alumni Relations with event planning and preparation

How should FALA volunteers conduct themselves at events?

  • Alumni are just as interested in meeting you as you are in meeting them, so tell them about yourself, what you study and how the campus has changed since they graduated.
  • Always smile, introduce yourself and offer assistance or information.
  • Remember, you are representing Adelphi University, the Office of Alumni Relations and your fellow students. Therefore your goal is to be professional, responsible and courteous at all times. You may be talking to a potential employer and you want to show him/her your best qualities.
